About Us

foaf-search.net is a project of netEstate - a german company specialized in crawler, search engine and semantic web technology.

You can learn more about us on our german homepage.

Other projects of netEstate are:

A faceted semantic search of Wikipedia.

A site to create and share text classifiers.

A website search engine with reverse IP lookup.

An event search engine for events described with the hCalendar microformat.

Data crawled by us will not be made available to other crawlers. We prevent this via the robots exclusion standard and the use of Captchas.

Our crawler calls itself "netEstate FOAF crawler" and is searching the web for RDF documents while respecting the robots exclusion standard. It is written in Java and uses the Jena framework. If an RDF document containing a foaf:name or foaf:nick property is found, it is posted to our triple store based on Joseki and TDB.

The Website runs on Zope2 and uses the SPARQL endpoint interface to Python to query the triple store. Information that is needed for identification or search is stored in a MySQL-database.
